Designed a system to create better than hi-definition quality video by using a digital SLR camera
Technical Workflow Design
I enjoy the challenge of pushing the envelope of current technology, exploiting its weaknesses, and finding innovative ways to redesign it into a more robust and adaptive system. In this example, I created a hybrid Hi-Definition video pipeline by combining computing power and a digital SLR camera. The camera shoots a sequence of still images approximately 3504 pixels by 2336 pixels and is compiled on a PowerMac G5 into a QuickTime movie. Shooting direct-to-disk liberates the necessity for a tape. A single frame image captured from the camera is superior in size and quality to the best Hi-Definition video standard at 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels. Beyond the initial cost of the computer system, with an additional investment of $5,000 for the camera and lenses, I created a complete system that rivals the best quality Hi-Definition equipment costing over $500,000. The examples below are the jpegs right off the sensor, there is no post-processing what so ever.
